Erin Winemiller, cellist and founder of Noteworthy Strings, has been a member of Portland's Columbia Symphony Orchestra since 2001. Under the direction of Huw Edwards, the CSO has consistently received accolades in The Oregonian, Willamette Week, Portland Tribune, and other publications. Erin recently joined the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Salvador Brotons, Conductor) as Assistant Principal Cellist. She frequently travels the Northwest to perform with regional orchestras such as the Oregon East Symphony. In addition to her work as a freelance cellist, she is an active chamber musician and teacher. Currently she is a member of the Ruslan String Quartet (with members of the Oregon Symphony, Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, and Portland Opera Orchestra) and the Mireus Trio (with members of the Columbia Symphony). Erin also enjoys performing classical music in non-traditional settings with the Portland Cello Project (www.portlandcelloproject.com) and Classical Revolution (www.classicalrevolutionpdx.org). She has been a member of the American Federation of Professional Musicians since 2001. Erin came to Portland in 2000 after living in Chicago for several years, where she studied cello individually with Hans Jensen at Northwestern University. Previously Erin studied with David Tonkonogui of the Seattle Symphony and was a member of the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. Erin founded Noteworthy Strings because she is passionate about providing high-quality live performances in a variety of settings, both casual and formal, and because she believes classical music should be accessible to a broad spectrum of audiences. |
